The Contemporary Arts Center is an artistic space and platform in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah that brings together artists to share their works and offer specialized courses and programs across various art forms. It was inaugurated in 2018 under the supervision of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah Region Development Authority, and is considered one of the first specialized art centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Twenty male and female artists participated in the opening of the Contemporary Arts Center, showcasing several artworks that marked the launch of the region authority's operational plan.

Contemporary Arts Center objectives

The Contemporary Arts Center aims to create an inspiring environment for young men and women, supporting them across all scientific and creative artistic fields. It also seeks to embrace various artistic spectrums and provide educational programs for children and cultural programs. Through the center, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah Region Development Authority seeks to regularly host art exhibitions, offer artistic, craft, and educational programs, organize knowledge tours, and implement artist residency programs, in addition to presenting various types of art within an organized methodological framework, serving as a reference for future art-supporting projects.

Contemporary Arts Center facilities

The center spans an estimated area of 8,200 m² and includes several facilities, such as art exhibition halls, educational classrooms, multipurpose rooms, a library, a café, as well as outdoor landscaped courtyards and plazas adorned with water fountains.

The center consists of several buildings that include three halls equipped to host workshops and teach visual arts such as sculpture, painting, and pottery making, with a total area of 210 m². It also features a visual arts exhibition hall covering eight hundred m², a gallery area of 240 m², and a library containing both heritage and contemporary books with a space of 130 m². Additionally, the center includes a visual presentation hall measuring 220 m², a multipurpose hall of eighty m², a designated area for administration and control offices, and a dedicated café space of 180 m² with seating that overlooks the project site.

Contemporary Arts Center design

Its design was inspired by the prevailing architectural style of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah. The facades are made of Al-Madinah stone, with white walls harmonized with black marble. The exterior facades are adorned with stained glass, while the open courtyard at the project’s entrance features Islamic wall patterns, wooden seating areas, and green spaces covering an area of 650 m², designed to provide a visually pleasing experience for the center’s visitors.
