The Advanced Electronics Company (AEC) is a Saudi company specializing in defense and aerospace, communications and information technology, energy, cybersecurity, and national security. It commenced its operations in 1988 and is headquartered in Riyadh. AEC provides services in engineering, development, and manufacturing, and has become the technological arm of the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI.)

AEC beginnings

AEC began its operations in 1988 as a company specialized in providing and developing defense and aviation capabilities, e.g., air navigation operations, electronic warfare, and command and control solutions. In 1995, it established the information and communications technology (ICT) unit and provided major services, e.g., establishing data centers, technical platforms, communication solutions, and systems integration. In 2005, the energy unit was established and worked on developing smart networks, smart metering, and renewable energy solutions. In 2015, it started offering solutions for cybersecurity and national security management.

AEC is supported in its operations by its subsidiaries, such as the Arab Advanced Systems for Simulation (AASC) and Advanced Electronics Support Services Company (AESSCO.)

Acquisition of AEC

On December 28, 2020, SAMI, fully owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF,) announced the completion of the AEC acquisition, thus becoming a 100 percent Saudi company. This acquisition is the largest of its kind in the private sector within the military industry across the Kingdom.

AEC manufacturing and development

The manufacturing department at AEC manufactures electronic products using several technologies that comply with international quality standards. Some of the manufacturing activities include the manufacturing and testing of various types of electronic panels, building cables, and wire harnesses, designing and developing testing devices, as well as programming manufacturing machines and test equipment to meet product requirements.

The engineering and development department at the company offers technical services, e.g., software development and engineering services in various technology fields. It utilizes modern international standards in the engineering and development sector.

Defense and space at AEC

The Defense and Aerospace Sector at AEC provides the national security needs of the Kingdom and contributes to the localization of industries through local manufacturing of aviation technologies and major defense equipment. The company has introduced key surveillance technologies within its scope of work, as well as provided and developed support services for military operations.

Energy services at AEC

AEC provides and supports the development of its specialized technology services in clean energy production, renewable energy solutions, and work standards. It offers services related to industrial production growth through industrial automation techniques and improving manufactured products by providing quick and efficient repair and maintenance services. Additionally, it accelerates the growth of the energy sector through the use of electric distribution networks and smart meters.

AEC also enhances the protection of national resources and defends against external attacks by providing security and local solutions for projects in both the public and private sectors. It designs facility security and cybersecurity solutions.

Products locally produced by AEC

AEC has manufactured several products in the energy field, e.g., eADDAD smart energy meters and wADDAD smart water meters. It has also produced products in the solar energy industry, including Shams XP550-HV TL outdoor central solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter, the integrated power station, and Shams Plus.

The company received the King Abdulaziz Quality Award, was named the Best Supplier by Boeing in 2015, earned the 2015 Platinum Supplier Excellence Award from Raytheon, and was awarded the EPIC Supplier of the Year for 2017 by Raytheon.

AEC aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by aiming to localize 50 percent of military manufacturing, contribute to renewable energy generation, drive digital transformation, enhance electronic health services, and promote human resource development.
