The National Water Company (NWC) is a Saudi joint stock company fully owned by the Public Investment Fund. NWC is headquartered in Riyadh. It was founded in 2008 and provides water and sanitation services.
The NWC strategy is based on enhancing water quality, developing services provided to customers, and expanding water and sanitation coverage by working in integrated sectors in the fields of human resources, operations, and privatization. Moreover, it takes into account the preservation of the environment by preserving non-renewable water resources, reducing the environmental impact of the water sector, identifying priorities for revenue improvement, reducing costs and water losses, and finding new sources of income.
NWC functions
NWC increases operational capacity, manages operations and assets, develops the health, safety and environment ecosystem, updates information technology systems, enables digital transformation for operations, leverages advanced data analytics in decision-making, raising operational efficiency, and applying the best standards and governance.
NWC awards
NWC won a number of international and local awards since its establishment. In 2020, it received the World Water Information Organization Award for being the world's best global water company, in addition to the 2020 Special Achievement GIS (SAG) award in geographic information system (GIS,) which is presented by Esri, the world leader in geographic information systems. Moreover, NWC was awarded the 2019 Excellence Award in the category of "Water Project of the Year" from the Global Water Intelligence (GWI) in London. In 2018, NWC won the Best Water Project Award for its smart project from the World Water Organization (France). In 2014, the company received the HP Excellence Award.
In 2013, NWC received the Quality and Excellence Award from OtherWise, the Middle East Award for Excellence in Government and E-Services, in addition to the 2nd Best Distinguished International Water Company Award in 2012, the 2011 Excellence Award in the Field of Innovation for Water Distribution Management, the 2011 Best Environmental Project, and the 2010 Quality Award in Customer Service Programs.
The NWC won local awards, including the 2020 King Abdulaziz Award for Quality (Bronze) in the category of major service enterprises, the Makkah Award for Environmental Excellence, the Prince Turki Bin Nasser Environment Prize in 2012, and the 2011 Golden Membership for the Saudi Council for Quality, etc.
NWC projects
As part of its strategic plans to achieve its development objectives of strengthening its infrastructure and ensuring continuous operational efficiency, NWC implements several water and sanitation projects.
On August 3, 2022, NWC announced its intention for bidding and selecting 1,429 projects with a total value exceeding SAR108 billion. This is the largest suite of projects in the water distribution sector, distributed among thirteen administrative regions in cities and provinces across the six sectors. The Western Sector was allocated 353 projects with a value exceeding SAR38.96 billion, 240 projects for the Central Sector with a value exceeding SAR14.19 billion, 215 projects for the Northern Sector with a value exceeding SAR12.95 billion, 328 projects for the Southern Sector at about SAR15.3 billion, and 162 projects for the Northwestern Sector with a total value of more than SAR7.7 billion. As for the Eastern Sector, 117 projects were allocated with a value exceeding SAR16.17 billion, in addition to fourteen projects supporting various sectors with a value exceeding SAR2.72 billion.
