His Excellency Hamad Bin Mohammed Al al-Sheikh has been a Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since September 27, 2022. He holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Commission for the Guardianship of Trust Funds for Minors and their Counterparts, and a member of the Council of Ministers, Economical and Development Affairs Council, the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for al-Ula Governorate, the Board of Directors of the National Development Fund, and the General Authority for Statistics.

His education

He completed his university education with a bachelor’s in administrative sciences from King Saud University in the capital, Riyadh. He continued his graduate studies in the United States of America, and obtained two master’s degrees, one in economics from the University of San Francisco, and the second in planning and development from Stanford University, in addition to a doctorate of philosophy in economics from Stanford University in 1995.

His career

He held a number of positions, including: Minister of Education (December 27, 2018, until September 27, 2022), Deputy Minister of Education for Boys’ Affairs in the Ministry of Education from 2011 until 2015, and Vice Dean of King Saud University for development and quality from 2009 until 2011, and Dean of the King Abdullah Institute for Research and Consulting Studies at King Saud University during 2008 - 2009, and Vice Dean of the College of Business Administration for Development and Academic Accreditation for the year 2007 - 2008, and Head of the Economics Department at the College of Administrative Sciences for the year 2006- 2007.

Al al-Sheikh spent about thirty years in academic work, during which he worked as a professor in the Department of Economics at the College of Administrative Sciences at King Saud University until 2011. Before that, he was a visiting researcher at Stanford University in 1997, and he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of San Francisco between 1983 and 1984.

Medals and honors

He won the Order of King Abdulaziz, first class, in 1999, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal from the Joint Forces Command in 1991.
