His Excellency Mohammad Bin Abdulmalik Bin Abdullah Al al-Sheikh (born on July 21, 1969) has been a Minister of State, member of the Council of Ministers, and member of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since January 29, 2015. He is also the chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property.
His education
Born in the city of Taif, Makkah al-Mukarramah Province, west of the Kingdom, he finished his university education with a bachelor's in Sharia Law, Judiciary Department, from Umm al-Qura University, and received a master's in Law from Harvard Law School in the United States of America.
He worked at the World Bank’s Legal Department for three years, from 1998 to 2001, and then moved to work in a legal practice in New York City until 2003. He then returned to the Kingdom and began his legal consultancy work until 2012. He was appointed executive member of the board of directors and the Kingdom’s representative to the World Bank in Washington.
Offices and memberships
He took charge of the duties of the Minister of Health between April 10-29, 2015, and was appointed chairman of the board of directors of the General Authority for Sport (currently the Ministry of Sport) from April 22, 2017, until September 6, 2017.
He chaired the board of the Capital Market Authority from 2013 until 2015. He also served on a number of boards of directors, including the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Oil Group (Saudi Aramco) and the World Bank Group in Washington. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Organization of Securities Commissions that oversees capital markets, until being appointed Minister of State, member of the Council of Ministers, and member of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs in 2015. He also served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property in 2020, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Investment Fund.
