Tuwayq Palace is a cultural palace and architectural landmark located in Riyadh City, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the projects affiliated with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. It has won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The palace is used for hosting cultural and social activities.

Tuwayq Palace Location

Tuwayq Palace is located in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, specifically in the northwest corner. The Diplomatic Quarter is a diplomatic neighborhood housing around seventy embassies. The palace hosts various cultural activities such as seminars, workshops, local and international events, and official receptions. It is situated approximately 2.2 km away from the Cultural Palace.

Tuwayq Palace architecture

Tuwayq Palace spans an area of 77,000 m², surrounded by a wall measuring eight hundred m in length and twelve m in height, with a thickness of thirty cm of concrete. The exterior is covered with insulating material and pieces of stone. The wall encircles an inner garden rich with ornamental trees and waterfalls, interspersed with tents reaching a height of seven m. This design is in harmony with the surrounding desert environment and helps protect the palace from daytime heat. Three international companies participated in its design: Omrania & Associates, Frei Otto, and Bureau Happold. It was executed by Hanyang Corporation.

Tuwayq Palace Components

The palace comprises a spacious foyer, reception and celebration halls, dining and lecture halls, and a guesthouse consisting of four wings and thirty rooms. Additionally, it includes an indoor sports hall for activities such as volleyball, badminton, and bowling, as well as outdoor courts and swimming pools. Surrounding it are some sports fields and parking lots, alongside desert gardens overlooking the adjacent valley.

Development of Tuwayq Palace

The development of the palace is overseen by the "Boutique" group, a hospitality company owned by the Public Investment Fund. This initiative was announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the crown prince and prime minister, on January 20, 2022. After the development, the palace will feature ninety-six rooms, including forty suites and fifty-six villas.
