Her Royal Highness Princess Reema Bint Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud serves as the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United States of America. She is the first Saudi woman to hold this position and the first female ambassador in the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Princess Reema was appointed as Ambassador to the United States by Royal Decree, signed by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, in 2019, when he was the Deputy Crown Prince. The decree was issued in the name of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Life of Princess Reema Bint Bandar

She was born in the capital city of Riyadh. Her father, Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, served as the Kingdom's Ambassador to the United States between 1983 and 2005. She is the granddaughter of King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud from her mother's side, Princess Haifa al-Faisal. Her brother, Prince Khaled Bin Bandar, is the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United Kingdom.

Princess Reema grew up in the capital city of the United States, Washington, D.C., where her father, Prince Bandar, served as an ambassador. She completed her education and obtained a bachelor's degree in Arts from Mount Vernon College at George Washington University in the United States in 1999.

Princess Reema Bint Bandar early career

Princess Reema is the first woman to hold a position in a multi-sport federation in the Kingdom. She served as the president of the Saudi Arabian Federation for Community Sports. She also worked as an advisor in the Office of the Crown Prince and as the Deputy of Planning and Development at the General Sports Authority (currently the Ministry of Sport).

Princess Reema founded the Alf Khair company and organized the KSA 10 initiative to raise health awareness among community members. She entered the Guinness World Record by creating the largest pink ribbon, symbolizing the fight against breast cancer. She is a founding member of the Zahra Breast Cancer Association. She also launched the Women's Everest expedition, aiming to deliver an educational message about combating cancer and promoting sports as one of these means.

Princess Reema Bint Bandar's positions

Princess Reema Bint Bandar held the position of CEO of ALFA International. She also served as the Head of the Women's Division in the General Sports Authority before it transformed into the Ministry of Sports. In addition, she was a member of the Advisory Board for the World Bank's Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative and a member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee.

Recognition and awards

She ranked sixteenth in Forbes Middle East's list of the Top two hundred Most Powerful Arab Women in 2014. She was also listed in Fast Company's "One Hundred Most Creative People" in 2014.
