Salmani architecture is an architectural style that integrates cultural heritage with current trends. It seeks to align authenticity and modernism through urban designs inspired by the ancient Saudi heritage.

The concept of Salmani architecture is directly associated with the capital city of Riyadh, which is currently expanding its scope of urbanization. The city is a model of urban planning that seeks to achieve authenticity and preserve Saudi Heritage in the short and long terms.

The name behind Salmani architecture

Salmani architecture is a result of the renewed construction heritage in Riyadh. It emerged from the developmental vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, HRH King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, in the preservation of the historical identity of the region, and the respect to its architectural pillars. It also combines the old urbanism with the modern to establish the Salmani architecture style, which has become an urban footprint in Riyadh.

The urban style in Riyadh is referred to as Salmani architecture, based on King Salman bin Abdulaziz's essential role in modernizing and developing the urban identity of the capital. He was the region's prince for more than fifty years, during which he enhanced the local heritage identity through various projects.

Models of Salmani architecture

Some of the most prominent projects that incarnate the Salmani architecture in Riyadh are Al-Hukm Palace District, King Abdulaziz Historical Center, the Diplomatic Quarter, and the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to SEDRA by ROSHN. The latter, which is owned by the Public Investment Fund, is building over thirty thousand households based on the Salmani architectural style, with modern urban designs that combine the city's identity and modern building standards.

The King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism (KSCAU)

The King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism (KSCAU) is the arm that instills Salmani architecture inside and outside the Kingdom. KSCAU was introduced by the Architecture and Design Commission within its comprehensive strategy in 2021. The initiative disseminates the concept of urbanization in Riyadh during the reign of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and defines its strategies and foundations.
