The Center for Government Communication (CGC) is one of the media entities affiliated with the Ministry of Media in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established by the Ministry in January 2018. Its headquarters is located in the capital, Riyadh. The center specializes in unifying the media messages and identities of government entities in the Kingdom, covering their most important news, projects, and achievements, in addition to managing local media campaigns and highlighting the efforts and accomplishments of national individuals.
At the international level, the mandates of the CGC intersect with the British Government Communications Center, and in the Gulf with the Government Communication Centers in Oman and Kuwait.
CGC logo
The logo of the center consists of horizontal parallel blue lines from left to right on a white background. In their final form, they depict the map of the Kingdom, indicating the collective and comprehensive media work for all government entities in the Kingdom. The colors of the lines change occasionally, depending on the identities and media campaigns launched by the center, to signify keeping up with the event.
CGC role
CGC convenes regularly with representatives from government entities, with each meeting accommodating up to sixty official spokespersons and individuals responsible for media and communication in their respective departments. The meetings are held to establish and monitor shared media plans and discuss what has been implemented under the umbrella of the unified media program (GRID), launched by the center for this purpose and in which more than ninety-four government entities participate.
CGC runs a press office that monitors events and reactions and offers its services to governmental entities. It provides political analysis and advice from a group of competent consultants in the political media unit of the center.
CGC services
The center provides comprehensive graphical products related to government entities, making them available for viewing and downloading, and constantly updating them. These include: the Government Agencies Guide, the Government Applications Guide, the Guideline for Preparing and Writing Media Plans as well as designing and presenting presentations, biographies of the state's ministers and senior officials, and other data and guidance manuals. In addition to offering training courses in journalism and media fields, the center launched the Faaliat platform and application in May 2019, aiming to inform about events, conferences, seminars, and exhibitions held in the Kingdom, and guide visitors to them by providing their time and location information.
The center launched media identities for national and Islamic events and occasions, such as the media identity for the Hajj season, the media identity for the campaign against COVID-19, and the media identity for the awareness campaign that accompanied the return to normal life after periods of lockdown due to the pandemic, and others.
CGC products
Since its launch, the CGC, through its website and social media accounts, has been keen to diversify its media products. These products include short video clips, infographics, and photographs. Particularly with its visual content, the center adopts a storytelling approach, capturing the experiences, achievements, and efforts of government entities and individuals, citizens and residents, through sound and imagery.
Awards received by the GCG
The center has won several awards, including: the Sharjah Award for the best government communication campaign on the women's driving issue at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries for the year 2018, the award for the best creative campaign for the Hajj in 2018, from the Hajj and Umrah Research Institute, the New Media Award for the best short film in the Hajj season of 2019, and the General Entertainment Authority Award for the best application for the identity of the eighty-ninth National Day.
