The results of the Saudi National Mental Health Survey revealed that the most common mental health disorders in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are separation anxiety disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), major depressive disorder, social phobia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The survey, conducted by the King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR), targeted approximately 4,004 male and female individuals aged fifteen to sixty-five years who were randomly selected. Interviews were conducted in the participants’ homes using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI 3.0), developed by Harvard University for the World Mental Health Survey Initiative.

The final survey results indicated a close approximation to global prevalence rates, revealing that 34.2 percent of Saudis had experienced at least one mental disorder at some point in their lives. In comparison, the prevalence rate reached 47.4 percent in the United States, 39.3 percent in New Zealand, and 37.9 percent in France.
