Coffee beans cultivation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been known as a hereditary profession, dating back approximately three hundred years to meet the farmers' self-sufficiency needs. The types of coffee grown in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia include:
Saudi Khawlani coffee beans
One of the most expensive and rarest types of coffee beans in the world, it is distinguished by its aroma and the oily layer that coats its beans. It is named after the Khawlan Bin Amer tribe, which inhabits the mountain ranges extending between the Kingdom and Yemen. This coffee is cultivated in the mountainous highlands of Jazan Province, southwest of the Kingdom, where the climatic and geographical conditions are ideal for its growth. The nutrient-rich mountainous soil gives it a distinctive flavor. Saudi Khawlani coffee trees are irrigated using two methods: surface irrigation and rain-fed irrigation.
Harari coffee beans
Originally from Ethiopia, this type of coffee is cultivated in the Kingdom in three varieties: Longberry, which has the largest beans; Shortberry, which has smaller beans; and Mocha. It is characterized by flavors reminiscent of chocolate and citrus.
