King Fahad Public Library is one of the public libraries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, located in Jeddah. It was opened in 2014 to serve beneficiaries by providing resources across various sciences and fields of knowledge. The library also facilitates electronic indexing and seeks to enhance the cultural identity of the community. Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role in education and development by organizing numerous cultural and educational activities.

Establishment of King Fahad Public Library

The idea for its establishment was proposed by Prince Majid bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and was approved by King Fahad bin Abdulaziz al-Saud. The foundation stone was laid in 1996. After its inauguration, it was placed under the management of King Abdulaziz University, given its location within the university campus, to serve as a public library.

Sections of King Fahad Public Library

King Fahad Public Library comprises six sections: the main library and references that meet research and scientific needs, including reading rooms and direct research services. The Library for the visually impaired provides information technology methods that enable them to read and write. The children's library enhances the child's interest in reading in an environment that combines pleasure and knowledge. The women's library targets women with books, magazines, and programs that consider their intellectual interests. The youth library, the first dedicated to the youth of both genders in Saudi Arabia, offers them a curated collection of informational resources that align with their preferences and interests.

Services of King Fahad Public Library

King Fahad Public Library offers various services, including guidance and reference. It also provides and organizes information sources, books, and references. The library also allows users to borrow books based on specific rules.

The library offers a current awareness service, informing users about the latest references and information sources added to its collection. Additionally, the library provides a copying service that allows users to utilize photocopiers for free to photocopy the pages they are interested in from books.

Electronic Services at King Fahad Public Library

In 2020, King Fahad Public Library in Jeddah launched its electronic library services through the "Knowledge: Giving and Growth" initiative. This initiative features a collection of books covering various fields of knowledge such as social sciences, psychology, self-development, Sharia, children's books, languages, literature and novels, history and geography, diverse sciences, and arts. The objective is to highlight the library's cultural and informative role effectively by leveraging electronic technology to reach a broader segment of society.
