The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque is the authority responsible for the affairs of the Two Holy Mosques in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its mission is to provide comfort for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the two mosques in both Makkah al-Mukarramah and al-Madinah al-Munawwarah through the services it offers. It was established under the name General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques in 1977. Then, a Royal Order was issued in 1987 to change the name to the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. The name was later amended to its current title in 2023. Its board of directors, including the president and members, are appointed by a Royal Decree. Organizationally, it is directly linked to the King. Its administrative headquarters is located in Makkah al-Mukarramah, adjacent to the Grand Mosque.

Mandates of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has several responsibilities, the most prominent of which are: taking care of and developing the Two Holy Mosques; enabling the visitors to pray and complete their rituals in a spiritual environment; enhancing and organizing crowd management; increasing the capacity for pilgrims, Umrah performers, and worshipers in cooperation with relevant entities; overseeing the cleanliness of the two mosques and their needs; providing Zamzam water, in addition to supervising the activities of the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Kaaba's Kiswa. Meanwhile, the supervision of the muezzins, imams, educational circles, lessons, and all religious matters associated with them have been transferred to the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.

Services of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque

Through its official website, the General Presidency offers several services, including requests for seclusion, requests for pilgrim guides and wheelchair pushers, booking appointments to visit the Museum of the Two Holy Mosques and the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba's Kiswa, organizing Iftar meals during the month of Ramadan, requesting Zamzam water for mosques in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, and attending scholarly lessons in the Prophet's Mosque.

Harnessing technology to serve the pilgrims and those performing Umrah

The Kingdom offers several services in the interest of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, such as: translation services for sermons, lessons, and boards; guiding visitors of the Grand Mosque in more than sixteen languages, including sign language; harnessing technology to serve the pilgrims and those performing Umrah through smartphone applications; providing training courses and knowledge enrichment; and contributing to the growth of the scientific movement through the institute and library of the Grand Mosque and the library of the Prophet's Mosque, along with its institutes and colleges.

Departments of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque

The General Presidency manages a complex, a museum, two libraries, and a number of institutes and colleges. It is affiliated with agencies and departments that regulate its work. It also issues a periodic magazine under the name the Two Holy Mosques, which is published in both Arabic and English.
