The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has hosted numerous Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summits over the past decades. Riyadh City and AlUla Governorate have played pivotal roles in shaping many Gulf decisions and transformations, which have yielded results and materialized for the benefit of the region's people.
1981
The second session of the GCC Supreme Council was held in Riyadh City from November 10 to 11, 1981.
1987
The eighth session of the GCC Supreme Council was held in Riyadh City from December 26 to 29, 1987.
1993
The fourteenth session of the GCC Supreme Council was held in Riyadh City from December 20 to 22, 1993.
1999
King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud inaugurated the twentieth session of the GCC Supreme Council, held from November 27 to 29, 1999, at Diriyah Palace in the Capital, Riyadh City.
2006
The twenty-seventh session of the GCC Supreme Council (Sheikh Jaber Summit) was held in Riyadh City from December 9 to 10, 2006.
2011
Riyadh City hosted the meeting of the thirty-second session of the GCC Supreme Council from December 19 to 20, 2011, during which a proposal was discussed to transition from the cooperation stage to the union stage.

The summit was named (Sultan Qaboos and Sheikh Sabah Summit) at Maraya Hall in AlUla Governorate, under the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, crown prince and prime minister.
