The Chair of Cornea Studies Research is one of the scientific research chairs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, located at King Saud University in Riyadh. The chair was established in 2009 as a specialized chair for corneal research and technology transfer. Its goals are to support scientific research and clinical training, generate and apply knowledge to enhance the quality of healthcare services, and develop a generation of researchers and professionals in corneal research in Saudi Arabia.

Objectives of the Chair of Cornea Studies Research

The Chair of Cornea Studies Research aims to achieve several objectives, including studying the chemical and physical properties of organic compounds that can be used in the production of eye drops and the treatment of dry eye, analyzing the chemical and physical properties of polymers (such as plastics) for use in manufacturing various types of lenses and medical devices, extending their lifespan, and converting them into nanoparticles for medical applications. It also focuses on studying the tear film and dryness in humans and animals, as well as researching the cornea and the factors influencing it in humans and animals.

Partnerships of the Chair of Cornea Studies Research

The Chair of Cornea Studies Research seeks to establish genuine scientific and research partnerships with research centers and local and international universities in its fields. It also trains local professionals in its research areas, raises public awareness about corneal and eye diseases, their prevention, and treatment, and fosters collaboration, coordination, and the exchange of scientific research and expertise among relevant institutions and research centers within and beyond Saudi Arabia. From 2009 to 2023, the chair has produced approximately 256 scientific papers.
