Ingredients of Ma'amool ad-Dawasir
Ma’amool ad-Dawasir is composed of finely ground oud, selected based on the quality of the desired product. Sometimes, a lower-quality residue of fine oud, known as 'Riyashiyah,' is used to produce inferior types of Dukhoon (incense). Its ingredients also include Dhafar or Dhufour (a type of aromatic resin), dates, Jawhi or Jawani (benzoin), mastic, Wars (turmeric), and saffron, which is used to color and enhance the scent of Dhufour. Additionally, it contains Ashnah (oakmoss) and a blend of essential oils, including Habshush, oud oil, warm and cool rose oil, and sandalwood oil.
Production of Ma'amool ad-Dawasir
The production of twenty kg of Ma'amool ad-Dawasir takes two to three days. The quantity of ingredients depends on the expertise of the maker, whether a woman or a man. The manufacturing process goes through several stages, starting with grinding the finely ground oud, followed by cleaning and roasting the dhufr with a quantity of coarse sand (or simply burning it in ovens). It is then soaked in a solution of water, turmeric, saffron, and some essential oils before being dried, ground, and added to the ground oud. The oakmoss is roasted and incorporated into the mixture, while an appropriate amount of benzoin and mastic are ground and mixed in. Warm and cool rose oil, oud oil, sandalwood oil, and musk are then added and thoroughly blended. A concentrated date syrup is introduced to give the mixture a sticky consistency, ensuring it holds together. Finally, the mixture is shaped into small balls with diameters ranging between 1.5 and two cm and left to dry in a covered area, making them ready for use.
