The Glass Bottle is made of honey-colored glass and has a shape resembling a pear. It features a tall, narrow neck, a slightly outward-protruding mouth, and a pointed base. It was discovered at Qaryat al-Faw Archaeological Site, southeast of Wadi ad-Dawasir Governorate, in Riyadh Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

History of the glass bottle

The glass bottle dates back to the period between the third century BCE and the third century CE. It was used for storing perfumes and has a height of 6.5 cm and a width of 3.5 cm.

The discovery of the glass bottle is part of the archaeological survey and excavation efforts carried out by the antiquities and museums sector in Saudi Arabia over the past years. It is among the finds made by Saudi archaeologists, scientific expeditions, and joint research teams.

The glass cup is registered under number 2240 and is preserved in the Museum of the Archaeology Department at King Saud University in Riyadh. It was selected to be part of a collection of archaeological discoveries from Saudi Arabia displayed in the Saudi Archeological Masterpieces Through the Ages Exhibition.

Significance of the glass bottle

The small size of the glass bottle, along with the precision and abundance of its details, reveals the presence of an advanced workshop in Qaryat al-Faw. These bottles were typically used for storing perfumes or preparing other valuable substances.
