Awwad Bin Saleh Al-Awwad was born in 1972. He is an advisor at the Royal Court with a ministerial rank and the former President of the Human Rights Commission in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a ministerial rank from 2019 to 2022. Prior to that, he served as the Minister of Culture and Media before they were separated into two ministries. He also served as the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Federal Republic of Germany and was the Director of Financial Studies and Banking Supervision at the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (currently the Saudi Central Bank).

Early life and education of Awwad Al-Awwad

Dr. Awwad Bin Saleh Al-Awwad was born in the capital, Riyadh. He earned his bachelor's degree from the College of Administrative Sciences at King Saud University in Riyadh in 1993. He then earned a master's degree in banking operations from Boston University in the United States of America in 1996, followed by a Ph.D. in financial market law from Warwick University in the United Kingdom in 2000.

Awwad Al-Awwad has participated in several advanced training programs, including the Harvard University Program for Executives, the Eisenhower Fellowship for Youth Leaders, the Cranfield Intensive Senior Management Program, and the Singapore Government Economic Development Program.

The government career of Awwad Al-Awwad

Awwad Al-Awwad began his government career in 2000 at the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency then (currently the Saudi Central Bank), where he served as the Director of Financial Studies and Banking Supervision at the Financial Institute. He then became the Deputy Governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (currently the Ministry of Investment). In 2004, he was appointed the head of the National Competitiveness Center (NCC), which was established to enhance investment laws and procedures in Saudi Arabia. In 2015, he was appointed Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Federal Republic of Germany. He served as Minister of Media in 2018 and as Minister of Culture and Media from 2017 to 2018, before the two ministries were separated. He later served as the President of the Human Rights Commission in Saudi Arabia from 2019 until he was relieved from his duties in 2022. He was subsequently appointed advisor at the Royal Court with ministerial rank.
