Timeline of the Formation of the Ministry of Economy and Planning in Saudi Arabia


The Ministry of Economy and Planning is responsible for developing, evaluating, and advancing economic policies and development plans in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, supporting the realization of Saudi Vision 2030. Its establishment went through several stages, as follows:
1953
The Ministry of Economy was established.
1954
The Ministry of Economy was merged with the Ministry of Finance under the name Ministry of Finance and National Economy.
1961
The Supreme Council for Planning was established.
1965
The Central Planning Authority was created to replace the Supreme Council for Planning.
1975
The council was transformed into the Ministry of Planning.
2000
The economic affairs function was transferred from the Ministry of Finance and National Economy to the Ministry of Planning.
2003
The Ministry of Planning was renamed the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
