The General Directorate of Agriculture was established and linked to the Ministry of Finance during the reign of Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud.
1953
The General Directorate of Agriculture was transformed into the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.
1961
The Water Affairs Agency and the Agricultural Affairs Agency were established.
1965
The Ministry of Agriculture and Water was divided into two main sectors: the Agricultural Affairs Sector and the Administrative and Financial Affairs Sector.
1970
The Desalination Affairs Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water was established.
1974
The Desalination Affairs Agency was transformed into the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).
1985
The Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization was linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.
2002
The water sector became independent from the Ministry of Agriculture.
2016
The Ministry of Agriculture was renamed the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, incorporating environmental and water responsibilities, merging certain agencies, and dissolving the Ministry of Water and Electricity.
