Where Is Palm Cultivation Concentrated in Saudi Arabia?


Palm cultivation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is concentrated in Qassim Province, which boasts 11.2 million palm trees, followed by al-Madinah al-Munawwarah with 8.3 million palm trees, Riyadh Province with 7.7 million palm trees, and the Eastern Province with 4.1 million palm trees, as reported by the statistics issued by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in July 2023.
The Kingdom has more than thirty-four million palm trees spread across all its provinces. It produces more than three hundred date cultivars, notably Sukkari, Khalas, Ajwa, Suqi, and Safri dates. It boasts an annual production of over 1.6 million t.
The Kingdom's production of dates and their derivatives has seen substantial development and growth, employing modern technologies and maintaining high-quality standards. This has contributed to increasing the export of its products and has propelled the Kingdom to claim the top spot in date exports globally in 2021.
