The Gulf Theater Festival 2024 is the fourteenth edition of the festival. It was organized by the Theater and Performing Arts Commission, one of the commissions under the Ministry of Culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The event was held from September 10 to 17, 2024, with the participation of artists, theater professionals, and critics from various Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, presenting a range of diverse cultural and artistic performances and activities.

Objectives of the Gulf Theater Festival 2024

The Gulf Theater Festival 2024 aims to support the Gulf theater movement, strengthen cultural and artistic ties among theater professionals in the Gulf, and contribute to creating a platform for cultural and artistic exchange. It also seeks to empower and support Gulf theater artists, encourage attendance at local theaters, and enrich both Saudi and Gulf theater.

Performances of the Gulf Theater Festival 2024

The Gulf Theater Festival 2024 hosted around six diverse theatrical performances presented by each GCC country. The festival also featured various artistic and cultural events, workshops, and seminars.

Awards of the Gulf Theater Festival 2024

The Gulf Theater Festival 2024 awards were distributed as follows: The Taif Theater Team received the Outstanding Community Theater Award. The Kuwaiti play 'Ghassat Uboor' (Bittersweet Passage) won the Best Theatrical Performance Award, while the Saudi play 'Bahr' (Sea) earned both the Best Theatrical Direction Award and the Best Theatrical Music Award. The Best Playwright Award was shared between the Emirati play 'Ashofak' (I See You) and the Kuwaiti play 'Ghassat Uboor.'

Omani actress Asmaa al-Oufi won the Best Actress Award for 'Leading Role,' while Saudi actress Fajr al-Yami received the Best Actress Award for 'Supporting Role.' Saudi actor Shehab al-Shehab won the Best Actor Award for 'Leading Role,' and Kuwaiti actor Abdullah al-Turkmani won the Best Actor Award for 'Supporting Role.' The Best Lighting and Best Costume Design Awards went to the Qatari play 'al-Khaima' (The Tent), while the play 'Enda ad-Daffati al-Ukhra' (On the Other Shore) received the Best Stage Design Award.
