Al-Jawz Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Unaizah Governorate in terms of construction and architecture, built in 1821, over two hundred years ago. It is located in Al-Jawz Neighborhood in the center of Unaizah City, in Qassim Province, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The mosque is adjacent to Al-Khurayzah Neighborhood. The word Al-Jawz means "pairs" or "doubles" in the local dialect. The mosque is situated near farms to the north and west, making its location significant both for the neighborhood and the surrounding farmland.
The five daily prayers are still held there after its reconstruction and renovation, funded by al-Subai family in Unaizah.
Components of Al-Jawz Mosque
Al-Jawz Mosque is distinguished by the presence of a "Sarha,” an open courtyard surrounded by a wall, and a “Misbah,” the roofed section where prayers are performed during sunny summer days. It also features a “Khilwa,” an underground chamber that is soundproof and insulated, remaining cool in the summer and warm during the winter.
Development of Al-Jawz Mosque
Several historical mosques in Qassim Province have been restored, including Al-Jawz Mosque and Al-Fakhiriyah Heritage Mosque, as part of the Historic Mosques Restoration Initiative launched by the former Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, now the Ministry of Tourism. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance and the Heritage Charity Foundation, with the participation of a group of Saudi youth.
