Salwa Border Crossing is a land port on the eastern border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the only crossing connecting the Kingdom to the State of Qatar. It is located in al-Udayd Governorate in Salwa City, in the Eastern Province, near the border strip with Qatar, which spans approximately eighty-six km.
Supervision of Salwa Border Crossing
The Salwa Border Crossing is one of fourteen land border crossings managed by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Border Guard, and the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority. These crossings connect the Kingdom to eight Gulf and Arab countries: Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Yemen. On the Qatari side, it is adjacent to the Abu Samra Border Crossing.
Development of Salwa Border Crossing
In 2022, the Salwa Border Crossing underwent a development process that included passenger halls and infrastructure enhancements. The goal was to increase the crossing’s capacity and strengthen the connection between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This effort is part of Saudi Arabia’s vision to become a global logistics hub, leveraging its strategic location at the intersection of three continents: Africa, Asia, and Europe, through the development of land border crossings.
