The Virtual Reality Research Center (VRRC) is a research hub established at Effat University in Jeddah City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in 2014. The center focuses on scientific research and provides cutting-edge virtual reality technologies, including model innovation and simulations, serving local and global research communities.
VRRC's vision
The VRRC strives to achieve its vision through collaboration with local and global partners, providing specialized expertise to support virtual reality research and contributing to education and its applications. The center plays a role in various fields, including the healthcare sector, where it aims to provide systems for describing pain treatments that control pain levels from level seven to level three without the need for any medication. These systems will assist doctors in relieving their patients of the side effects and complications associated with pharmaceuticals.
The center contributes to the field of virtual reality, supporting Effat University’s vision of being a pillar of scientific excellence across various research areas and in the domain of learning and education environments. The center is expected to lead in its engagement with the community by offering virtual reality technologies to students and schools. Additionally, the center has built collaborative relationships through strong partnerships with leading global academic institutions, such as the University of Washington and the University of Miami.
VRRC's services
The VRRC provides several services, including the imaging cavity, head-mounted displays that enable users to enter the virtual world, thin-client servers, tracking cameras, standalone Oculus systems, pain emitters, which are specialized equipment designed to make users feel pain, and the Snow World program, designed to freeze and distract from the sensation of pain.
