African Studies Program

The African Studies Program is one of the regional specialization programs launched by the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Established in 2018, the program focuses on African continent affairs and implements various activities and projects to achieve its objectives.

The African Studies Program was established as a unit within the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in 2018. It is a regional research program dedicated to various aspects and fields of the African continent, including strategic, political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions. Through multidisciplinary approaches, the program monitors and analyzes the internal dynamics and regional and international relations of smaller entities and major political units. The previously existing North Africa Studies Unit was incorporated into this program.

The African Studies Program implements projects that contribute to spreading knowledge about the communities of the African continent. One such initiative is the publication of the 'African Followups,' a series of specialized papers compiled into a monthly report published by the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Riyadh. The series discusses various political, economic, and security issues relevant to the inhabitants of the African continent, along with their regional and international implications, through multidisciplinary approaches and diverse perspectives.

Since its inception, the African Studies Program has undertaken several interactive activities that contribute to achieving its objectives. These activities include virtual discussion sessions, seminars, as well as the publication of several books and research papers, which include special reports, commentaries, studies, updates, and situational assessments. All these efforts aim to enhance understanding of African communities and contribute to spreading awareness across different generations on the continent.
