Timeline of the Formation of the Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia


1926
During the reign of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, the Public Prosecution, the nucleus of the Ministry of Interior, was established. At its inception, the Department of Public Security, Public Health, Municipalities, Public Works, Commerce, Agriculture, Industries, Minerals, Telegraph, Post, and other private institutions were incorporated under its umbrella.
1931
The name of the Public Prosecution was changed into the Ministry of Interior. The change also covered health, knowledge, Sharia courts, municipalities, and security sectors in Hejaz.
1934.
The Ministry of Interior merged with the Council of Agents, assuming the functions of the Public Prosecution.
1951
The Ministry of Interior was re-established simultaneously with the founding of the Ministry of Health.
1955
The Ministry of Interior was relocated from Hejaz to Riyadh, gradually assuming supervision over the provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
1960
The Ministry of Interior's supervision over all the Kingdom's provinces was completed.
2010
The Ministry of Interior launched "Absher" platform to keep pace with the Kingdom's digital transformation.
