
Fayfa Governorate, located in Jazan Province, is the smallest governorate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by area, covering about 160 km. It is a class (B) governorate based on the administrative divisions of governorates. It has one administrative center and is located about one hundred km from Jazan City, the seat of the emirate. It is located on a mountain that rises 1,800 m above sea level.
Fayfa Governorate is known for the architectural heritage of its buildings. Its houses are circular, thus distinguishing it from other governorates of the Kingdom. The people of Fayfa have their own dialect whose vocabulary belongs to the ancient classical Arabic. Their dialect was also influenced by the ancient Himyaritic language that was spoken by the people of Fayfa in ancient times. The mountains of Fayfa are known for their agricultural terraces that produce crops such as grains, fruits, vegetables, and aromatic plants. These produce notable include coffee beans.
