Al-Esha House is a traditional architectural style known for its prevalence in Jazan Province, located southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly in plains and along valley edges. These houses are built using parts of trees and certain plants, while their bases are typically coated with mud and gypsum (a material used for plastering and decorative purposes).
From the outside, Al-Esha House has a conical shape, while its horizontal layout is circular with a diameter ranging from three to five m. It is constructed with two perpendicular entrances to ensure proper ventilation.
Adjacent to Al-Esha House, there is a separate building called the "Banaya," which serves as the kitchen and contains multiple stoves, referred to as Tanour. Additionally, a small shaded structure 'Areesh', known locally as Sabl, houses kitchen tools, and a stove for preparing coffee. There is also another open-sided shade structure near the house.
Typically, Al-Esha House houses are single-story buildings designed to accommodate guests and used for sleeping. A family may have one or more Al-Esha House units depending on their financial means and the size of their household. Despite their simplicity, these homes are adorned with aesthetic touches, such as hanging colorful plates and decorating their floors and walls with intricate patterns.
