
The history of Arab summits began in 1946 with the convening of the emergency "Anshas" Summit in Alexandria to support the Palestinian cause. The summit affirmed the issue of Palestine and its Arab identity, considering it at the heart of fundamental Arab issues. The summits held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are:
1976
At the invitation of the Kingdom, a mini-Arab summit was held in Riyadh City in October 1976, involving six Arab countries. The aim was to halt the bloodshed in Lebanon, restore normal life, respect Lebanon's sovereignty, reject its division, and initiate its reconstruction. Subsequently, the Eighth Ordinary Arab Summit Conference was held in Cairo from October 25-26, 1976, which ratified the decisions, statement, and annex of the Six-Party Arab Summit in Riyadh.
2007
Riyadh, the capital, hosted the Nineteenth Ordinary Arab Summit. In the "Riyadh Declaration" issued at the conclusion of the summit, Arab leaders affirmed the necessity of earnest work to fortify Arab identity, support its components and foundations, and embed belonging to it in the hearts and minds of children, youth, and adolescents. They decided to give utmost priority to developing education and its curricula in the Arab world.
2018
Dhahran City in the Kingdom hosted the Twenty-Ninth Arab Summit. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud announced naming the summit "al-Quds Summit," stating: "Let everyone know that Palestine and its people are in the hearts of Arabs and Muslims." He also announced the Kingdom's donation of USD150 million to support the Islamic Endowments Program in Jerusalem, as well as a USD50 million donation to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East "UNRWA."

At the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, an extraordinary Arab summit was held in Makkah al-Mukarramah to confront the challenges facing the region and their implications for regional and international peace and security.

Jeddah City hosted the Thirty-Second Ordinary Arab Summit, which was held remotely and coincided with exceptional circumstances affecting the region and the world, including regional and international crises and conflicts.

Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom, hosted the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit, which was held at the invitation of the Kingdom and the State of Palestine, following the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
