Maher Hamad al-Muaiqly is an imam and khateeb (preacher) of the Grand Mosque in Makkah al-Mukarramah, located west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Recognized as one of the prominent reciters in the Islamic world, he was appointed to lead the Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers at the Prophet's Mosque. Subsequently, he moved to lead Taraweeh prayers at the Grand Mosque. He also delivered the Arafah sermon at Namirah Mosque in Arafat during the Hajj season of 2024.

Life of Maher al-Muaiqly

Maher al-Muaiqly memorized the Quran and studied at the Teachers’ College in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah before moving to Makkah al-Mukarramah. There, he worked as a mathematics teacher and later as a student counselor.

Academic qualifications of Maher al-Muaiqly

Maher al-Muaiqly earned a master’s degree in Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) from Umm al-Qura University in Makkah al-Mukarramah in 2004. He obtained a doctorate in Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) in 2011 and another doctorate in Fiqh from the same university in 2012.

Early career of Maher al-Muaiqly

Maher al-Muaiqly was appointed as an assistant professor at the College of Judicial Studies and Regulations at Umm al-Qura University. He also served as the vice dean for postgraduate studies and scientific research at the same college. He has authored two scholarly works: the first on the jurisprudential issues of Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal as narrated by Abdulmalik al-Maimuni, and the second, an editorial study of the book Tuhfat al-Nabih fi Sharh al-Tanbih, focusing on hudood (Islamic penal laws) and judiciary.
