The major cities in the western region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, such as Makkah al-Mukarramah, al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, Jeddah, and Taif, are distinguished by a unique traditional architectural style in terms of the materials used and construction methods.

The topography of the land in Makkah al-Mukarramah influenced the formation of its architectural style, where the built-up area extends along the valleys. Meanwhile, the building masses in Jeddah Governorate extend in a unified direction towards the sea to obtain the greatest amount of ventilation. Among the architectural styles in the western region are:

- Building facades entirely covered by al-Rawashin.

- Building facades with multiple openings of equal dimensions.

- The historical prevalence of arches, domes, minarets, and facades' openings.

- Multiple floors reaching up to five stories in major cities.

- The use of stone and baked brick together in constructing houses.

- The use of colored bricks arranged in a distinctive decorative manner to cover roofs.

- Chimneys projecting above the end of the roof parapet in city houses.
