Harees is a traditional dish popular in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Its preparation practices trace back to various regions within the Kingdom, particularly in the Eastern Province. While most regions share a common culture of preparing Harees, there are variations in the spices used.

Harees can be categorized as a winter dish, as its texture resembles that of Aseeda (porridge) and it is rich in calories, providing the body with energy and warmth. Harees is typically not served with complementary dishes. Its preparation relies on two main ingredients: ground wheat and mashed meat. Cooking takes between one to two hours until it achieves a firmer consistency, resembling Aseeda or Jareesh. It is stored and served in insulated containers to prevent it from cooling and to retain its warmth for as long as possible. Ghee can be added during the final presentation of the dish.
