Since 1932, seven kings have ruled the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They are:
Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud ruled from 1932 until his death in 1953.
King Saud Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ruled from 1953 until 1964, when he abdicated in favor of his brother, King Faisal.
King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ruled from 1964 until his assassination in 1975.
King Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ruled from 1975 until his death in 1982.
King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ruled from 1982 until his death in 2005.
King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ruled from 2005 until his death in 2015.
King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was pledged allegiance as King of the Kingdom on January 23, 2015.
According to the Basic Law of Governance in the Kingdom, the rule is to be held by the sons of the Founding King and their descendants, with the most suitable among them pledged allegiance according to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him (PBUH). After the founding king's sons, the king and crown prince cannot both come from the same branch of the king's descendants.
