Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Humaid (born in 1950) is an Imam, preacher, and teacher at the Grand Mosque, in Makkah al-Mukarramah. He has been a member of the Council of Senior Scholars since 2001. He is also an adviser to the Royal Court. In addition to serving as a preacher, Mufti, and teacher at the Grand Mosque, he was appointed Imam of the Mosque in 1984 and a member of the Shura Council in 1993.
Saleh Bin Humaid is a prominent Islamic figures in the Islamic world. He was awarded the King Faisal Prize for the Service to Islam in 2016. He assumed many leadership positions, such as the chairmanship of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque in 2000, and the chairmanship of the Shura Council between 2001 and 2008. In 2008, he became chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council for three years. He has been chairman of the Islamic Fiqh Council since 2007.
Life of Saleh Bin Humaid
Saleh Bin Humaid was born in Buraydah City, Qassim Province. He moved to Makkah al-Mukarramah where he completed his secondary studies in 1987 before earning his bachelor's degree from the College of Sharia at Umm al-Qura University in 1975. He obtained his master's degree from the same university in 1976 and completed his doctoral studies in Fiqh and its principles in 1981.
Early career of Saleh Bin Humaid
Saleh Bin Humaid assumed several positions at Umm al-Qura University. Upon obtaining his bachelor's degree, he was appointed assistant lecturer, then lecturer, before becoming assistant professor at the university. He supervised and deliberated upon academic theses. He was then appointed chairman of the Islamic Economy Department before assuming the position of the college's dean.
Positions assumed by Saleh Bin Humaid
Saleh Bin Humaid held the position of director of the Center for Islamic Studies at Umm al-Qura University. He was appointed deputy chairman of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque in 1993. He is a member of the World Supreme Council for Mosques with the Muslim World League and the Sharia Committee at the International Islamic Relief Organization. He has several publications, including eleven books on Sharia and Dawa, some of which were translated into foreign languages.
