Ahmed Omar Massoud (1941 - 2016) was a Saudi businessman and sportsman. He chaired al-Ittihad Club for three different terms during which the club officially won nine championships.

Beginnings of Ahmed Massoud

Ahmed Massoud was born in Jeddah City. He completed his primary, middle, and secondary education at ash-Shati schools. He joined al-Ittihad Club as a football player with the 1950s generation of players, such as Ghazi Kayal, Amin Saati, Abdulrazzaq Bikr, and Abdullah Hijazi. He retired at an early age to study business management. His education helped him later when he returned to the club as its president.

The humanitarian side of Ahmed Massoud

In addition to his sports achievements with al-Ittihad Club, Ahmed Massoud was active in humanitarian and social fields and in philanthropy. He was among the first founders of al-Bir Society in Jeddah, during the reign of Prince Majid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1982. He later became the chairman of the society's board of directors.

Ahmed Massoud's presidency of al-Ittihad Club

The relationship of Ahmed Massoud with al-Ittihad Club dates back to 1960, when he played for the club. He chaired al-Ittihad Club for three different terms during which the club officially won nine championships, as follows:

First term: One year, from 1991 to 1992. During this term, he won the Saudi Crown Prince Cup with al-Ittihad Club.

Second term: Three years, from 1998 to 2001. During this term, he won eight championships, including two foreign championships, a first-time achievement for al-Ittihad Club. Won championships include the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Cup (in 1998 and 1999), the Saudi Federation Cup (1999), the Gulf Club Champions League (2000), the Asian Cup Winners' Cup (2000), the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Cup (2001), the Saudi Crown Prince Cup (2001), and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Cup (Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup - 2001).

Third term: He was unable to complete his term due to his death only two months after assuming office. He died on September 1, 2016, while he was with his team at their camp in the Republic of Turkey. His body was transferred to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and was buried at al-Baqi Cemetery, in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah.
