What Is the First Medical College in Saudi Arabia?
Established in 1967, the College of Medicine at King Saud University in the capital, Riyadh, is the first medical college in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 1974, the section for female students was opened, and two years later, King Abdulaziz University Hospital, which was known as Prince Talal Hospital, became affiliated with the college. The college achieved the seventy-ninth rank globally among medical colleges, according to the Times Higher Education ranking in 2009.
In 2018, the College of Medicine at King Saud University celebrated fifty years since its establishment, and a new expansion of the college was built on an area of thirty thousand m², consisting of a basement and four floors. The building included seventy training halls accommodating 1,800 students, and offices for five hundred faculty members and employees, equipped with the latest medical electronic learning tools.
