Project Masam for landmine clearance in Yemen is an initiative by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, launched in 2018, continuing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts in humanitarian work.
Project Masam aims to achieve several objectives, including addressing direct threats in Yemen, enhancing security, and helping the Yemeni people eliminate the impacts of landmine proliferation, which has caused deaths, severe injuries, and disabilities for thousands of children, women, and the elderly.
The project is implemented in several phases: starting with rapid response to emergency cases, training local Yemeni teams, and then carrying out comprehensive clearance of areas across Yemen. The total number of landmines removed since the project's launch up to April 2024 has reached 43,000 landmines.
Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has worked to serve as a center for providing humanitarian, charitable, and external relief assistance to affected populations. Headquartered in the capital, Riyadh, it strives to develop mechanisms that ensure rapid response to humanitarian crises, build partnerships with leading humanitarian organizations, and enhance the impact of aid provided by the Kingdom. The aim is to ensure sustainability through improved oversight, evaluation, and monitoring processes.
The center adheres to a Code of Conduct and Ethics, first issued in 2017, which remains applicable to all its representatives and staff within the Kingdom and abroad. One of its rules stipulates providing assistance without discrimination or bias.
