The Global AI Summit (GAIN) is a biennial event organized under the supervision of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). The first edition took place on October 21-22, 2020, in Riyadh City, under the patronage of the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SDAIA, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz.

The second edition of the GAIN was held in September 2022 over three days, while the third edition took place in September 2024 at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh City.

The summit is an international platform that brings together decision-makers, experts, specialists, and academics from around the world, along with tech companies, investors, and business leaders. The first edition was themed 'AI for the Good of Humanity.'

Themes of the GAIN Summit

During its first edition, the GAIN Summit, held over two days, featured thirty sessions with approximately sixty speakers, including ministers, leaders of global entities, academics, investors, and entrepreneurs from twenty countries. The discussions focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping life and the future, as well as ways to transition to the new era and its rapid changes. The summit promised to collectively chart the future of AI without exclusions, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched opportunities for international collaboration with global partners to realize this promise and unlock the potential of AI for humanity.

Outcomes of the GAIN Summit

On the first day of the GAIN Summit, the Kingdom launched the National Data and Artificial Intelligence Strategy, 'NSDAI,' aimed at shaping the future of data and artificial intelligence on both national and global levels.

The Kingdom signed three strategic agreements with global companies: IBM, Alibaba, and Huawei. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the International Telecommunication Union to establish a global framework that supports international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. Represented by 'SDAIA,' the Kingdom collaborated with the World Bank on a joint initiative aimed at enhancing the digital economy in developing countries, enabling them to accelerate the development of AI technologies and transform them into drivers of economic growth.

Furthermore, the summit hosted a special advisory session in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) to establish an advisory body for global cooperation in the field of AI, addressing issues related to inclusion, coordination, and capacity building. At the conclusion of the summit, the winners of the summit tracks, 'Neom Challenge' and 'AI Artathon,' were announced, with the winners receiving prizes totaling SAR1 million.
