Education is compulsory in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is free in public schools for both citizens and residents. This applies to all three levels of general education: primary, intermediate, and secondary, totaling twelve years of schooling. The Kingdom, represented by the Ministry of Education, is committed to providing a suitable educational environment for students. It offers free textbooks and prepares school facilities to welcome them. Additionally, there is an option to attend private and international schools, which charge fees.
At the university level, the Kingdom offers its citizens the option of free education or studying through programs and tracks offered for a fee. Additionally, the Kingdom allows outstanding non-Saudi students to obtain scholarships to complete their university education. These scholarships can be internal, for students residing in the Kingdom, or external, to attract top-performing students from other countries.
