Al-Hisn al-Asfal Mosque is one of the mosques covered by the second phase of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques. It is located on the Hajj route, in al-Naseem Center, governed by the city of Abha, in Aseer Province.
History of al-Hisn al-Asfal Mosque
Al-Hisn al-Asfal Historical Mosque was built in 1760. In the past, Friday prayer was held at the mosque. It was visited by worshipers from neighboring towns, passersby, and pilgrims to and from Makkah al-Mukarramah, as it is located on the ancient Hajj route. However, prayers at the mosque were interrupted around thirty-five years ago, although the mosque remained a site for daily prayers.
Content of al-Hisn al-Asfal Mosque
In the past, al-Hisn al-Asfal Mosque comprised a small room known as al-Minzala. It was allocated for accommodating passersby. The mosque was renovated thirty years ago; a new minaret was added, and the accommodation room was replaced with restrooms. However, the mosque's thatched roof was maintained. It is ornamented with antique inscriptions and engravings of Quranic verses and the names of those who looked after the mosque over the years.
Area of al-Hisn al-Asfal Mosque
Upon being integrated under the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, it has been decided that the mosque will cover an area of 134.18 m, pre- and post-development, where its capacity of thirty-two worshipers will remain the same.
Many imams and muezzins served the mosque, including Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Ghanem, Sheikh Abdullah al-Saadi, Sheikh Abdullah Ahmed Nazeh, and Sheikh Ahmed Bin Funais, in addition to Mohammed Bin Funais and Ali Bin Mohammed Bin Funais, who served as muezzins.
