Wadi al-Lith is situated in the governorate of al-Lith, in Makkah al-Mukarramah Province. It extends along one hundred km, with an average slope of fourteen m/km. It originates from the village of Taflan and flows into the Red Sea near al-Lith. Its notable tributaries include Zura Valley.
In 2017, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) approved al-Lith dam project to prevent floods and foster sources of groundwater. The dam has a length of 380 m, a height of 44.5 m, and a storage capacity of around 89,825,000 m.
In expansion of the projects of the ministry aimed at fostering the sources of natural water, the ministry concluded, in 2019, a contract for drilling thirteen wells between the surface and embankment dams of Wadi al-Lith. Ten tube wells and three observation wells were drilled to find water sources for the purification plant. The plant produces up to twenty-five thousand m daily at a quality of three hundred parts per million.
