Makkah Province Development Authority

The Makkah Province Development Authority is a Saudi government authority responsible for outlining the general policies for the development and advancement of Makkah al-Mukarramah Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its responsibilities include preparing plans, studies, comprehensive strategic plans, and their implementation programs, as well as following up and executing projects, in coordination with the province's council and municipality.

Establishment of the Makkah Province Development Authority

It was established in 2000 to contribute to the development and advancement of Makkah al-Mukarramah Province by preparing structural, regional, and strategic development plans and creating studies and development programs to accomplish megaprojects. In 2018, the Council of Ministers issued a resolution to regulate the authorities for the development of provinces and cities.

Mandates of the Makkah Province Development Authority

The authority undertakes a number of tasks, including prioritizing the implementation of programs and projects in the province in accordance with development plans, proposing the expropriation of some properties for the development of the province in coordination with the province's municipality, reviewing development plans, programs, and projects related to the authority's work, developing programs necessary for private sector participation in project implementation, and reviewing and approving land subdivision plans.

Projects of the Makkah Province Development Authority

The Makkah Province Development Authority initiates and develops a number of projects, including: the Jabal Omar Development Project, the Ajyad Hospital Development Project, the Jabal al-Kaabah Development Project, the Jabal Khandama Development Project, al-Shamiyah Area Development Project, the King Abdulaziz Road Development Project in Makkah al-Mukarramah, the Slum Area Rehabilitation and Development Project, the public transport project in Makkah al-Mukarramah City, the Makkah Green Initiative, the tourist road project, and Security Control Center Project in al-Shumaisi.
