Makkah al-Mukarramah is located in the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is home to numerous Islamic historical sites, including:

Jabal al-Nour

Located northeast of Makkah al-Mukarramah, this mountain houses the Cave of Hira (Ghar Hira), where the first revelation descended upon Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (PBUH). The mountain stands 642 m tall and covers an area of 5.250 km², with its peak resembling a camel’s hump.

Al-Bay'ah Mosque

It is one of the historic mosques in the Holy Sites, situated near Jamrat al-Aqabah. It is the place where the Ansar pledged allegiance to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the Pledge of Aqabah. The mosque was built by Abu Ja'far al-Mansur in 761.

Jabal Thawr

This circular-shaped mountain, with ten pointed peaks, is located south of the Grand Mosque. Formerly known as Jabal Athal, it rises to 755 m and covers an area of 10 km². The cave in the mountain served as a refuge for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) as they sought shelter from the Quraysh disbelievers who wanted to kill the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). From there, they secretly migrated to al-Madinah al-Munawwarah.

Jabal Abu Qubays

It is known as the first mountain placed on earth, from which other mountains were extended. It is part of the Khindama Mountain range, located between Jibal as-Sadd and Wadi Ali, and is the closest mountain to al-Kaaba al-Musharrafa, situated east of the Grand Mosque.

Jabal Qaiqan

This mountain range stretches between Wadi Ibrahim to the east and Wadi Tuwa to the west, located northwest of the Grand Mosque.

Jabal al-Kaabah

It is situated northwest of the Grand Mosque in Harat al-Bab district, this mountain is also known as 'Jabal Maqla' al-Kaabah' because the stones used for the reconstruction of al-Kaaba were cut from this mountain.

Jabal al-Sayyidah

It is located north of the Grand Mosque in al-Hajun neighborhood, this mountain reaches a height of four hundred m. At its base lies al-Ma'la Cemetery, which houses the grave of Lady Khadijah Bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), and the mountain is named after her.

Jabal Omar

Located to the west of the Grand Mosque, this mountain is named after the Companion Omar Bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
