ALLaM Application‎ is a national chat application based on generative artificial intelligence technologies. The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) launched its pilot version on May 16, 2023, to provide a knowledge resource that answers users’ inquiries in formal Arabic.

Objectives of ALLaM Application‎

The application is meant to serve the Arabic language regionally and globally, empower, promote, and preserve its integrity, and highlight its significance by enriching its content across all fields. This aims to foster cultural diversity among nations through available worldwide digital applications and technologies. Additionally, it aims to leverage the Arabic language within diverse communities, regardless of their nationalities, languages, and education, and to contribute to achieving Saudi Vision 2030, making the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a global hub for advanced technologies, especially those related to artificial intelligence.

ALLaM Application‎ services

The application offers various services, such as chatting with users and responding to their inquiries in formal Arabic. It also drafts summaries and proposals on various topics in an updated manner and assists in finding resources related to users’ questions.

The current version has undergone testing and benchmarking to prepare its architecture, and has been trained on datasets in Arabic, along with diverse content in English. Users can type text or record their inquiries vocally, consequently, the application processes the inputs and provides answers either textually or vocally, depending on user preference. The answers are drawn from trusted knowledge resources in the Kingdom and the Arab world.

Development of ALLaM Application‎

SDAIA developed a pilot version of the mobile application to demonstrate some use cases and gather insights and feedback to enhance the capabilities of ALLaM.

ALLaM's integration into the Watsonx Platform:

On May 21, 2024, SDAIA included 'ALLaM' on IBM’s Watsonx Platform, for its compliance with the high programming standards possessed by the models in the Watsonx platform, in addition to the advanced level of technical capabilities in generating Arabic content in several fields, including science, technology, literature, culture, research, and the humanities.
