The Camel Studies Grant is a research initiative launched by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture on June 6, 2024. The grant aims to promote camel care and highlight its connection to cultural, economic, social, historical, environmental, and health aspects through scientific research across various specialized fields.

The grant was introduced on the occasion of the national designation of 2024 as the Year of the Camel, coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly's decision to name 2024 the International Year of Camelids.

Objectives of the Camel Studies Grant

The grant seeks to support excellence in theoretical and applied research in fields related to camel studies, and contribute to the development of new applications and technologies that enhance the economic and cultural value of camels. Furthermore, it promotes exploring related topics through modern concepts, methodologies, and theories, while addressing existing research gaps in the camel studies field.

Fields of the Camel Studies Grant

The grant welcomes proposals exploring various camel-related aspects, encompassing historical, cultural, social, economic, environmental, and health dimensions. Additionally, it encourages multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies to address contemporary challenges such as food security and climate change.

Stages of the Camel Studies Grant

The Camel Studies Grant follows several stages. It starts with the online registration phase via the application website to upload the research proposal and complete the necessary forms and commitments. This is followed by the evaluation of the proposals by a specialized scientific committee, then informing the authors of accepted research proposals and disbursing the first installment of the grant. Afterward, researchers send initial drafts of their research, then, the scientific committee reviews the submitted research drafts, and the second installment of the grant is disbursed. The final phase is the disbursement of the publication reward for research accepted by accredited and approved peer-reviewed journals.

Support and follow-up in the Camel Studies Grant

Grant recipients receive financial support and academic guidance from assigned scientific committees responsible for supervision, assistance in accessing necessary resources, and facilitating academic publication.

The grant amount for accepted proposals in the Camel Studies Grant Program will be disbursed in three installments. First, 40 percent of the total grant will be disbursed to the researcher upon the proposal’s approval. Then, 40 percent will be disbursed upon submission of the completed research draft and approval by the scientific committee. The remaining 20 percent will be disbursed upon publication after all required revisions from reviewers have been made, and submission of proof of acceptance from one of the journals recognized by the ministry.
