The entity responsible for the Endowment of Ain Zubaidah is the General Authority for Awqaf, according to the Council of Ministers' Resolution issued on August 24, 2010.
The General Authority for Awqaf is entrusted with the responsibility of organizing, preserving, developing, and promoting endowments in a manner that satisfies the conditions established by the beneficiaries. The Authority's primary objective is to enhance the role of endowments in economic and social development, as well as social solidarity, by the principles of Islamic Shariah and regulations.
One notable endowment is Ain Zubaidah, which was established by Zubaidah bint Jaafar al-Mansour, the wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid. This general endowment was specifically designated to provide water for the pilgrims at the Holy Kaaba in Makkah. It was initiated after Zubaidah herself performed the Hajj pilgrimage in 801 and personally witnessed the challenges pilgrims faced in securing an adequate water supply during the Hajj season.
