Wadi al-Rummah, which spans a distance of about 1,000 km, is the longest valley in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is also the oldest valley in the Kingdom. Bisha Valley is the second-longest at 460 km, followed by al-Hamd Valley at 400 km.
Wadi al-Rummah is located in the center of the Arabian Peninsula width-wise, as it stretches over a large area, crossing a dry desert from the outskirts of Medina in western Saudi Arabia. It flows from the foothills of nearby mountains and moves east to reach al-Qassim Valley.
During heavy rain seasons, water overflows in Wadi al-Rummah. Torrential rains form a complicated network of tributaries and reefs, thus transforming it into a geomorphological phenomenon (which refers to the factors influencing the formation of the land surface and the relevant processes) that manifests in Najd Plateau, above the Arabian-Nubian Shield.
