King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation

King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation is an international Saudi recognition award granted for unique works and outstanding efforts in the translation field. Its location is in the King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh. The award was established in 2006.

The award was established under the name of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation. In 2015, the Board of Trustees issued a decision to change the award's name to become King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation.

The award aims to transmit knowledge from all languages into Arabic and vice versa. It also encourages translation in the scientific field into Arabic, enriches the Arabic library by publishing outstanding translation works, and improves translation according to foundations based on originality, scientific value, and text quality, in addition to honoring institutions and bodies with significant efforts to transmit knowledge to and from the Arabic language.

King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation includes six categories: Translation Award for Individual Efforts, Translation Award for the Efforts of Institutions and Bodies, Translation Award in the Humanities from Other Languages into Arabic, Translation Award in the Humanities from Arabic into Other Languages, Translation Award in the Natural Sciences from Arabic into Other Languages, and Translation Award in the Natural Sciences from Other Languages into Arabic.

The award nomination is done by individuals, scientific institutions, and cultural institutions, provided that the candidate, whether an individual or an institution, has exceptional efforts in translating from and into Arabic. If the candidate is an institution or a body, they must not have won the award previously. Another term is that the translated work must be related to the announced award topics, and that the translation is from or into Arabic with the work obtaining an international deposit number within a maximum period of five years from the date of nomination. The candidate shouldn't have won any award in translation. It is also not permissible to nominate more than one work for one translator. ‏‏
Individual candidates are granted the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation if their efforts have contributed to developing translation from and into Arabic, as well as promoting civilized communication and the transfer of knowledge between cultures. Outstanding translated works in a fluent language, which enjoys accuracy in translation and honesty in transmission and documentation, can also receive the award, taking into account intellectual property rights in the original and translated work.
The award consists of an appreciation certificate that includes justifications for obtaining the award, SAR750,000 for each award, and SAR500,000 for the translation award for individual efforts, in addition to a commemorative medal.
