Malik Heritage Palace is one of the heritage palaces in Aseer Province, located in the southwestern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was later converted into a museum that houses various artifacts, including rifles that are over one hundred years old.
Geographical location of Malik Heritage Palace
Malik Heritage Palace is located in the village of Sabal, fifteen km north of Abha City, along the old Riyadh road. It is considered one of the historical landmarks of Aseer Province, covering an area of 250 m.
Events hosted at Malik Heritage Palace
Malik Heritage Palace hosted Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz on behalf of the people of Aseer Province in 1964. The palace also served as the venue for a meeting of the sheikhs of the Aseer tribes from both Sarat and Tihama for the first time, where a set of tribal customs was agreed upon.
Construction of Malik Heritage Palace
Malik Heritage Palace consists of five floors. The ground floor, built from stone, is used for housing livestock, while the upper floors are constructed from mud and slate. One of these upper floors is designated for grain storage and is called the "Raf." The remaining three floors are used for hosting guests and as living quarters. The palace is distinguished by its views of the surrounding farms to the south and north.
Facilities of Malik Heritage Palace
On the western side of Malik Heritage Palace, there is an old mosque that has retained its original structure. The palace also includes courtyards for horses and camels, which are specifically designated for the palace. There are adjacent annexes where family members and their families live. Surrounding the palace on all sides are farms that belong to the palace. The rooftop features gun slots embedded within the walls, facing different directions, designed for the protection of the palace and the village.
Conversion of Malik Heritage Palace into a museum
Malik Heritage Palace was converted into a museum that houses a collection of rifles over one hundred years old, as well as traditional farming tools, agricultural equipment, and heritage household utensils.
Qemam International Festival at Malik Heritage Palace
In January 2023, Malik Heritage Palace hosted the Qemam International Festival for Mountain Performing Arts, organized by the Theater and Performing Arts Commission. The festival featured performances from sixteen Saudi troupes and fourteen international troupes showcasing their performing arts. The festival events were held at seven locations, including Malik Heritage Palace, as well as Shamsan Castle, al-Mushayt Palaces, Basta al-Qabel, the historic village of Bin Adhwan, Abu Noghta al-Mathami Castles, and Abu Shahira Palace in al-Masqi.
